What happened to summer? I
feel as though I blinked and missed most of it. What with two of
my children’s weddings this summer, my usual seasonal laziness
was suppressed. Did I mention I was the official wedding planner
for the last one? I heaped a second helping on my plate with
that one. But I’m pleased to say it went well. Everyone got into
the spirit, and the happy couple had the big party they wanted,
complete with African drummers, fire spinning, and mounds of
amazing food.
In spite of foregoing my summertime leisure, I did remember to
ask for help. I’m especially grateful to the services rendered
by Carol Corneau at Forklifters (The Food Company). She was the
lifesaver who enabled me to enjoy the party, too. If you’re
planning an event in the Edmonton area, Carol would be a bargain
at twice the price! She’ll do everything from planning to
cooking to taking out the garbage, or anything in between. So,
relax and phone (477-7022), fax (477-7242), or email (ccarol-forklifters@telus.net).
Treasure Chest
Heads up for all business people out there. If you perked up at
that, then I mean you. If you didn’t, give me a chance anyway.
The way I see it is if you intend to be successful at what
you’re doing, then you must have a good business attitude. Not
all of us come by that naturally, but it is possible to learn,
and thereby recondition our minds to always think this way. In
fact, better not to really think at all. Better you should just
be this way, then any thinking you are compelled to do, in
interests of your business, will automatically reflect your
attitude. Consider for a moment Donald Trump, Warren Buffet, or
Bill Gates. Whether you like any of these people doesn’t matter.
The bottom line is they’re successful entrepreneurs. The reason
for this is they have entrepreneurial minds. It’s intrinsic with
them. Their minds take the skills they’ve learned and apply them
to building successful businesses.
Not all of you who run businesses are as entrepreneurially
inclined as the aforementioned three. But for some reason you’ve
chosen to embark on this path. Obviously you had a reason, and
just as obviously your wish was to be successful. Of course,
your success will be determined by where your success thermostat
is set. Those of you who’ve read “Secrets of the Millionaire
Mind” will understand what I’m getting at. (If you’d like to
read it, it’s available at Corbins.)
Rules of Engagement
So, if you’re not absolutely thrilled with your success, you’ve
got some work to do on your mind. While training yourself in new
skills is very important, it’s second to training your mind to
support you in your endeavors. And just like applying newly
learned skills, you must continually use your new way of being
in order not to lose it. Backsliding is the easiest thing to do.
Constant practice is essential, and that often means periodic
refreshing, by whatever means works for you. (If you’d like
suggestions on where to get started, I’m full of them. Just
request T. Raven’s email address by contacting Blair at
Corbins.)
Wow! Once I get started on an idea, there’s just no stopping me!
Blair simply asked me to pass on a message to you, and well, I
thought an introduction was the appropriate thing to prime the
pump. I’ve come such a long way, since I started working on
myself to be more successful, that I can’t contain myself from
sharing the importance of doing so with you. I mean, if it can
work for me, when I didn’t have a clue about what it takes,
imagine how much it can do for you. You’ve already put one foot
in the right direction.
Conscientious Objective
Can any one of us change the world? You know, you occasionally
bump into people - or ravens - now is a good example - who feel
it’s their duty to do so. Our hearts are in the right place.
We’re only slightly misintentioned. But I perch humbled. As a
very learned man, and one of my favourite mentors, Albert
Koopman once said to me, “We can’t change the world. Our job is
to raise consciousness.” No, it’s not possible to change anyone,
but it is possible to enlighten them, thereby encouraging a new
way of doing things. I hope I am able to do that
when I write. If it resonates with you, I hope you’ll get my
message. Well, that’s all I’ve got to say about that (...for now
- thought you were off the hook, eh?) Well, I’d best get on with
Blair’s message
Crash Relief
Here’s the deal: We’re at the end of the summer break period,
and it’s time to get back into the swing of things again. Maybe
you’re taking a good look at your business system. If not, maybe
you’ll take this suggestion and review your business plan. How’s
it working for you? Are all your ducks in a row, or do you have
all your eggs in one basket? Well, never mind ducks or eggs.
We’re not talking about farming or the grocery business. Calling
all sign manufacturers: How about your cutter or even your
printer. They’re bringing in the cash, right? Have you got a
back-up system in place? What happens if either one goes down?
What does that do to your cash flow at the end of the month?
Oops! While you are aware that Corbins provides excellent
service for tune-ups and repairs, our technicians are not
magicians. You will still experience some down time. So, avoid
the stress of that situation. Be prepared. Check our September
specials for amazing deals and bonus gifts on cutters and
printers. You owe it to your business to have back-ups in place.
Angel Wings
And while you are helping yourself, Corbins is offering you the
opportunity to support Hurricane Katrina victims. $50 from every
Rav en or Rav en King vinyl cutter purchased between September
15th and 30th will be donated to Katrina disaster relief. Please
assist us in this effort.
In addition, I challenge all my readers who haven’t already done
so, to match my personal donation of $100 to aid Katrina
victims. I urge you to give to the organization of your choice.
We can make a difference.
For your success,
Team Corbin
