Happy New Year everyone! How
many of you followed the time honoured tradition, and pledged
your allegiance to a resolution? I must admit I’ve never
subscribed to this practice. Perhaps I don’t trust myself to
follow through. On the other hand, I can’t say it’s ever
occurred to me to attempt it. I prefer to work on myself on an
on-going basis. For me New Year’s Eve is just a good excuse to
kick back and celebrate.

Still, the New Year is a time to reflect and motivate yourself
to take steps in new directions, to breathe new life into your
life. If you’re a fan of Ellen Degeneres you’re familiar with
the Life List. This is a list of all the things, big or small,
that you wish to accomplish in your lifetime. Maybe putting it
in writing is a good way to inspire yourself to act on some of
those passing fancies, like white water rafting, hang gliding,
and taking French and German classes. How exciting would that
be?
Why do we seldom get around to doing the things we wish we could
do? Fear, of course, is probably the #1 excuse, followed closely
by lack of time, and feeling we don’t deserve to do it. All of
the aforementioned are concocted by a devious mind created to
protect us from the dangers. The reality is that most of those
dangers lurk only within the confines of our minds. It’s
worthwhile to learn to transcend the mind in order to experience
the joy of being alive. The alternative is to stay trapped in
our fears and victim mentality. That really doesn’t sound like a
lot of fun, does it?

As I sit here typing, I’m waiting for news about beloved family
member and SignEquip Technical Manager, George Corbin. This
morning a confrontation with some ice in a parking lot landed
him in the emergency ward with a badly broken leg. Wouldn’t you
know, he was working out of town at the time, so his vehicle was
left behind, and he was shuttled via ambulance to meet with an
orthopedic surgeon in Westlock. I’m still waiting for word on
that, and Blair is trying to contact George’s wife and daughter.
This will not be a pleasant surprise for them. My prayers go out
to all three.
That’s how we’ve started the New Year at SignEquip. What can it
mean? Quantum physicists tell us that out of chaos comes order.
This is one of those times to contemplate that theory. I
remember Deepak Chopra telling us that when things are not going
his way, he’s come to understand that something amazing is about
to happen. So, now when things are going badly according to
Deepak, he actually looks forward to what’s in store. I like
that perspective. What is it they say about the best made plans?
Sometimes we need to relinquish control and let the Divine
intervene. I believe that if we could learn to do this in the
first place, it wouldn’t be necessary to have so many unsavory
experiences before we have few choices left, but to give in to
our destiny.

George, of course, will have to deal with the hard stuff on the
healing end. He’s been working so hard for all of us lately,
running all over western Canada to ensure that everyone is up
and running without any glitches. His schedule has been so
crazy, he’s found it difficult to pencil in some well deserved
time off. I guess now he’ll get time off. I‘m quite certain this
is not what he would have had in mind, but time off it is, and
now he has no choice but to make the best of it
We all will... Have to make the best of it, that is. Right now
our concern is with George and his well-being. Then we’ll have
to plan and regroup to continue to serve you with our usual
attention to your needs. Patience will be required, but I’ve no
doubt we’ll come up with something that will serve everyone’s
best interests even better than before. Times like this require
change. They force us to correct, if we wish to continue. So, in
the true spirit of the game of life and business, that is what
we will do. It will be an interesting test of what we’re made
of. I know that we, as well as many of you, have become
dependent on George’s presence and abilities. The fact that
he’ll sacrifice so much of his time to serve the company and
you, our clients, is noteworthy, and we’ve taken it for granted.
Well, George won’t be doing any running around for a bit. I hope
he takes this time to replenish and heal. I pray it won’t be too
difficult for him.

Have I made it abundantly clear that I believe everything
happens for a reason? I also believe it happens in order to
serve us. Not that I’ll be confronting George with this point -
at least not immediately - that is if I want to continue to have
the ability to open my beak and spout forth such provocative
ideas. There is a time for keeping one’s beak shut, and simply
showing compassion. After all, I have the luxury of standing
back a bit to watch the scenario unfold. When you’re the one on
the stage, it’s a definite test of fortitude. Besides, there’s a
distinct advantage to putting something in writing - I don’t
have to be present when it’s read - a little something I learned
from my cousins, the chickens!
While George is having his new experience, I’m about to engage
is one myself. This weekend I’ll be attending a Kundalini Dance
workshop, facilitated by my daughter and her partner at Ekstasis
Dance. I’ll be taking a journey through the chakras to learn
specific tools to transcend the mind, clear emotions, and
regenerate my life energy. I’m all for that. Best of all I get
to do it while moving my body to music. It’s all about the
mind-body relationship, and its connection to spirit. It’s an
amazing way to shift negative energy, and experience the joy of
being alive. I’m looking forward to attracting new energy. Blair
will join us, too.
