Welcome to my world. I’m still in the
afterglow of another amazing Peak Potentials seminar. Yup, I am
now certified. Beats certifiable, that’s for sure! Although,
considering one of the activities I participated in it’s
debatable which adjective is most appropriate. It’s quite
incredible what one will do when challenged to step outside
their comfort zone. In a supportive environment, as found at the
“Train the Trainer” course I attended, I discovered it is
possible to confront stage fright, and come out victorious. The
bonus is it was a whole lot of fun, and as previously mentioned
I have a certificate signed by T. Harv Eker, the absolute best
all around seminar presenter I have had the privilege of
studying under. What does this mean? We’ll see!
Chorus Line
Here’s the thing: Two of the key requisites of seminar
presenting besides a vision, conviction, and the desire to help
others, are keen marketing and sales skills. Like any other
product, you have to have a message people are willing to pay
for, and you have to be able to persuade them that it will
benefit them to do that. Learning to do this in a dynamic,
upbeat way is what I spent 4.5 very long days practicing. Enter
Blair Singer, mentor to the great T. Harv himself. This
legendary sales communication specialist, and member of the
“Rich Dad” Advisory Board devoted at least 16 hours to teaching
us what the great ones already know. This is just one indication
of the quality Harv provides at his seminars, but more about
that later.
Why am I going on about all this? Marketing and sales, that’s
why. What is the definition of business? Yup, you got it. So,
really, how important are good sales skills? Answer: How
important is your business to you? You absolutely cannot have
one without the other. Try it, and you’ll stay broke, which I
know is not what you aspired to when you started your business.
Simply put, it’s the difference between winning and losing.
Boiler Room
“There’s no such thing as a “no sale” call. A sale is made on
every call you make. Either you sell yourself on a reason why
you’ll do it or take action, or you sell yourself on a reason
why not. Either way a sale is made. The only question is, which
part of you is gonna win, the winner or the loser? The option is
always yours.” - Blair Singer, “‘Little
Voice’ Management Systems” . (First
recommendation: If you want to improve your sales skills get
this CD).
“...one of the largest stumbling blocks that keep people from
succeeding in business or even attempting to build a business is
their fear or dislike of sales or their inability to sell. If
you cannot sell, you cannot build a business. Sales and
leadership go hand in hand, as both are concerned with
delivering a vision of something better and convincing others to
agree and act on that vision. I have never seen a great leader
who could not sell, persuade, or influence.” -
Blair Singer, “Sales Dogs”.
(Second recommendation: Read this book.)
Close Encounters
The above quote provides an interesting perspective on selling.
An important factor in doing it well, is doing it with
conviction. If you don’t believe you will be helping your
prospect, chances are they’ll see you as a scam artist. Chances
are you’ve already pegged yourself as such. In order to persuade
and influence you absolutely must have a high energy that can
only come from your heart. When it comes to a
salesperson-customer encounter the person with the highest
energy is the one most likely to win. To elaborate, the person
with the sincerest energy is the one that deserves to win.
Once again, I’m going to step into uncommon business territory.
If your spirit is not involved in your business, then you will
likely not have the energy required to be successful. Possibly
it’s time to correct and continue on a new path by finding
something that fits better for you.
The Bird Cage
The last couple of years I’ve been all about learning. Who says
you can’t teach an old bird new tricks? Sure, someone did a
whale of a sales job on me (hmmm, maybe I should write a book
entitled “Sales Whales” - they’re bigger after all than dogs,
and it rhymes!) Where was I? Oh yeah.... Actually, it took more
than one person to convince me that my 30-year education drought
was turning me into a desert. I’m so glad they didn’t give up on
me. It’s changed my life immensely - which is why I keep nagging
(okay, negative connotation) - gently nudging you about the
importance of reading, attending courses, and locating personal
mentors. If you think you’re too old to bother learning, well
then, I guess you’re also too old to accumulate wealth. Putting
it in Harv Eker’s words, “You’re broke!” Sounds rude and harsh?
You’re right. So what? You can be right and stay broke, or you
can do something about it. Besides, NO ONE is a lot older than
me. If I can do it; you can do it. Really, I haven’t set the bar
all that high, however I am determined to raise it, which is why
I continue to challenge myself with new educational
opportunities.
Am I still broke? Fair question. I’m not yet financially free.
BUT my personal net worth has increased significantly since I
started this journey. I’m well on the way to my goal. My time is
very short; I only wish I’d started sooner (note to all under 30
or even 40, who think you’ve plenty of time to start - it’s easy
for you to become a millionaire by your sixties or sooner if you
start saving and investing now. A few cents a day is a start.
Why do it the hard way, like me?)
As Good As It Gets
What does financial freedom mean to me? It means the freedom to
work when and if I want to at whatever I choose to do. It also
means having more time to help and serve those that may not have
the wherewithal to do this for themselves. It’s all about having
a choice. I’m big on choice!
If you’re reading this you’re probably already an entrepreneur.
Good start. Put that together with the right education, and
you’re well on your way to financial freedom. Another
recommendation: If you haven’t already received tickets from us
to a “Millionaire Mind Evening” near you, contact Corbins now.
It’s how I got started. If it’s too late for you to attend the
April sessions, we’ll put you on the list for the Fall 2005
tour. And if you haven’t already got your New York Times #1
Bestseller “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” book by T. Harv
Eker, which includes two free tickets worth $2590 to the 3-day
“Millionaire Mind Intensive”, you can order now. It’s your
choice; the option is always yours.
For your success,
Team Corbin
