Summer - it’s here! Finally,
it’s that glorious time of year when we in the Great White North
can be guaranteed to go outdoors without a coat - well, usually
- and certainly lately. Whew! We’re having a record hot spell,
and it’s hot in here! Something I’ve never bothered to invest in
is an air conditioner. I live up north; how often have I
actually needed it during my lifetime? I’m certain I can count
the times on my wing tips, and I’m not a particularly young
bird. (That’s a gentle way of saying I’m getting on in years.)
Out to Lunch
I did purchase a fan for my office while passing by Home Depot,
on my way home from an appointment last week. It was the
beginning of this heat wave, and I dreaded the thought of
sitting at the computer in the sweltering heat. The fact that I
was walking did occur to me (I’d fly, but as Blair is fond of
reminding me, I’d left without my broom! FYI, he’s the one that
was born the day before Hallowe’en.)
Anyway, I thought I’d just check what was available. Then I
noticed a table model encased in a box that looked reasonably
portable, so invoking the warrior within, I picked it up, and
decided I’d probably make the last six blocks with it in tow.
(Couldn’t have managed that while trying to steer a broom!) I
may be an old bird, but I can still get somewhat physical when
necessary. I mean, it must have weighed almost 10 lbs!
Beam Me Up
My fan has been a godsend. You’d not likely be reading this if I
hadn’t bothered to tote that fan home. Not to complain about the
heat, though. It’s a bit more than I’m used to, but it’s really
quite lovely. I’m sure I could get used to it! I know I’ve said
spring is my favourite time of year. I love the promise of
things to come, but now that they’re here, I have to admit I’m
turning traitor. Everything is green - as long as we keep
watering in this heat! And flowers are blooming. What’s not to
love? I’ve noticed the heat brings out some wonderful scents and
aromas. Of course, it also brings out some questionable aromas -
like when you’re hard at it with a garden fork and a hoe,
encouraging all that summer finery to flourish. Oh well, nothing
a shower and little deodorant won’t fix!
Two For the Show
Summer might just be beginning, but Corbins’ successful ‘Off
Summer Trade Show’ is now over. Thanks to everyone who joined in
our efforts to bring you samples, demos, and lots of info. Give
yourselves a pat on the back for taking an active interest in
growing your business. Good luck trying out your sample of our
amazing new Vinyl-Off Liquid Vinyl Remover. If, for some reason,
you don’t receive yours soon, please let us know. We’re in the
process of organizing the delivery to all who dropped a ballot
in the box.
Speaking of ballots, congratulations to Central Signs and
Services, Red Deer, winner of the valuable VectorArt Mega
Collection door prize. Here’s wishing your Mega 2 Collection
brings you profits galore!
Thanks, also to the ASA for giving us the opportunity to ride on
your coat tails. Of course, our original intention was to
participate in your show, but since your popularity exceeded
your space limits, as good entrepreneurs we had to be creative.
A special thanks to those ASA members who supported our
additional offering.
Most importantly, thanks Richard, for your creative genius. You
utilized ‘what is’, and turned it into a wonderful opportunity.
We appreciate your suggestion to jump on and ride along with
you. It turned out to be a great investment for us and all who
took part.
Snow Cone
So, summer promises to be busy business wise, and of course
there’s the inevitable yard work. Actually, I prefer yard work
to house work. At least it’s an excuse to be outside. There’s a
question - why do I assume I need an excuse to be outside? After
all, fresh air is healthy, and so is relaxation. It’s not
necessary to only go outside to work. There are plenty of good
reasons to just be outside, and just because is one of the best
I can think of. In this area there’s lots of time to avoid being
outside in the cold - not that cold is bad - there are lots of
cold weather activities to encourage us to be active and
healthy, as well. However, personally I don’t find cold
temperatures nearly as conducive to enjoying the outdoors.
Believe me, I’m going to enjoy the poor sledding weather while
it lasts!
Submarine Races
Summer weather is great for long walks in the river valley,
eating ice cream, gardening, taking in a baseball game, the
Street Performers Festival, weekends at the lake, a vacation on
the West Coast, the Fringe Festival, or relaxing with a good
book. This is a good thing, because I’m way behind on my
reading. I have a stack of books waiting for me to get to the
bottom of them. There are even a few novels buried in there
somewhere.
How is your reading going? Have you investigated any of the
selections I’ve recommended in the preceding chapters? For
excellent summer reading you can catch up on my recommendations
by going to our website. Near the top of the left browse menu,
under Monthly Blog, you’ll see “Quoth the Raven...”. Just click;
you’ll find all previous chapters recorded there. Or take
Blair’s advice, and pick up a copy of Wayne Dyer’s new book,
“Inspiration”. Who couldn’t do with a bit of that? I’ll take a
large serving.
